Chapter Thirteen

James and I waited out in the clearing where we saw the Fey the first time. He was once again in his wolf form, deciding it was still the best way to protect me.

The Fey that appeared before us this time was a different male. He tilted his head, peering first at James then me. This on had eyes nearly black, with hair just as dark.

“You look like one of ours.” He said to me. James let out a snarl. The Fey man glanced at him. “Settle wolf. No harm will come to your mate.” The fey stepped closer but stopped as James got louder. “What is your name, little sister?”

“Abby Greene, err, it was Barrigon. Abby Barrigon.”

“Ahh, I see. You have the eyes of your Mother, but the spirit of your Father.”

“My father? Do you know who he is, did you know my mom?” I ask quickly, desperate for any answers.

Easy, Mate. Stay steady.

“Let go inside and away from listening ears.” He shot James a wry glance. “And maybe your mate would like to join us in his human skin.” He crossed one hand over his heart and bowed to James. “You have my word no harm will come to you or yours witch-borne.”

I glanced at James, What do you think?

The Fey take their promises seriously, they cannot lie. Just keep your senses open.

I nodded though, oddly enough, my magic was strangely subdued with the Fey around.

James and I followed him back into the cottage. James lead me into the bedroom, not willing to leave me alone, even with the Fey’s vow.

I waited until he was back in human form and fully clothed. He led the way back into the living room where the Fey was standing by the window, he turned as we walked in.

He eyes glittered as he watched us sit on the couch. “My name is Farlen. I was the brother of your father, Amil. He was the keeper of this border when he met your mother.”

“That makes you…” I was too shocked to comprehend what was happening.

“You’re my niece, little witchling.” The Fey smiled slightly as he spoke. “Though, something tells me you aren’t here to return to fairy.”

“Return?” James sounded just as shocked as I was.

“Yes. She and her mother lived there until her mother’s death. We lost little witchling in the chaos with the humans.” Farlen studied the two of us. “Though you’re not so little anymore. With a family of your own.”

“Where is my father?” I ask, though I had a feeling I knew.

“The mating bond a Fey has with his mate is similar to how I understand the mating bond is with our cousins, the wolves. He passed when Aleen did.”

“What about my magic? I ask desperately. “It has a darkness to it.”

Farlen smiled. “Ahh, witchling. You are not dark. Your mother had the same worries when she left her family. Neither of you have any of the darkness. It is something we Fey can sense. You just fear your magic.
